This is due to the fact that, provided one does not form up and pour a solid strong concrete pad for supporting the new AC unit, a lot of potential bad things can happen.
For instance, the poorly conceived and installed new system can allow many undesirable creatures to enter your crawl space, some of which can cause serious problems.
Some of the problems are allowing creatures such as mice, rats, roaches, spiders, raccoons, groundhogs, and polecats (skunks) to enter into your home. These animals can and do often destroy ductwork and produce their young right there within your very own ripped and torn ductwork. I have seen it far too often. This poor workmanship can also allow rainwater runoff to often enter under one's home by entering their crawl space. This can cause mildew, dangerous mold, and lumber decay.
